Are you a Good Student?

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” – John Dewey (American Philosopher)

You might be thinking “What is he talking about?”But hear me out.

We are all students of some sort or another.

Many of us are no longer be in schools or colleges attending formal education, but we are all the time getting instructions from the School of Life.

Yes, life is the biggest teacher, but we, more often than not, ignore Her Teachings and repeat our old mistakes. So what are the characteristsics of a Good Student?

Respect for Knowledge / Studies – A student should be eager to learn. He should identify his strengths and weaknesses, and should try to build upon his strengths and minimize his weaknesses. He should be focused on knowing what is Right rather than what is enjoyable, beacuse what is enjoyable might not always be right.

Respect for Teacher – The student should love and respect his teacher. Respect life and do what it takes to live a long healthy life – by eating in moderation, eating good, excercising and serving society.

Humility – Without humility there will be no progress, as ego acts like gravity on spiritual evolution. Uncle Bala (Dr Bala V. Balachandran), one of the biggest Teachers in Indian tradition of the modern age, always insists “I go. You go. So why Ego?”

Hard Work – There is no alternative to hard work. Life is a long journey where nothing happens unless we work realy hard.

Always remember what Nelson Mandela said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world“. And to be truly educated, we have to be good students.
